Over the past year, Bloc 11 in Union Square has really become my go-to coffee shop. I cannot overstate enough the importance of having such a place in my life. This is quickly followed by my need for a place to buy records. When Somerville Grooves opened up almost across the street from Bloc 11 a few weeks ago, it seemed like everything had fallen into place. I didn't go overboard on the first trip and kept it all under $25. To my amazement, I found a copy of Ron Wood's first album. Like a lot of people I know, I just finished reading Keith Richard's autobiography which has led me to going back and revisiting a lot of his old work. He had many good things to say about this record and I had always wanted to hear the original version of Mystifies Me which I knew as the closing track from Son Volt's first album. I've also been working through Jeff Beck's back-catalog. He's been touring constantly the last few years and I'm finally paying more attention to just how good his records are. This Kinks album was a favorite from the 80's. The old cassette copy I once had just didn't make it this far. I can still hear my friend Bill shouting along to Destroyer. All this was rounded out by an album from X. I did't have any of their records and they were just in town playing the Paradise. I would have rather gotten a copy of Los Angeles, but this is what they had. Thanks Somerville Grooves. I'll be back.
